Upper Styria and Erzberg region in summer
In Hochsteiermark, rough mining charme meets untouched nature. Next to the small town of Eisenerz sits the Erzberg, which has shaped the region for centuries. It is not only the largest and most important iron ore deposit in Central Europe, but also a place of discovery. The Erzberg Adventure World offers guided tours where visitors can experience active mining up close and gain an insight into the industrial use of the mountain on spectacular Hauly rides. Not far away is the legendary Leopoldsteinersee, which stretches out at the foot of the Hochschwab Mountains and invites you to take part in numerous outdoor activities. The area around the two thousand meter high Hochschwab is generally a paradise for hikers and nature lovers and offers a wide variety of hiking trails and breathtaking views. Hochsteiermark also has a lot to offer culturally: Oberkapfenberg Castle, an impressive example of medieval architecture, is home to a fascinating castle museum and a bird of prey show.
